Comments about American Standard Universal Bath Drain:

Could not get this drain to work right. Following the instructions to the letter. Only will work with no water in the tub. The weight of water on it causes it to close and you have to hold the knob till tub drains.

Unacceptable when I paid thousands for a tub and this is the only drain american standard offers.

You can call american standard and have them walk you through measuring and "properly installing" the drain rod thing. Didn't work for us though.

Zero stars for this really, I think.

Comments about American Standard Universal Bath Drain:

This drain assembly is not easy to adjust after it is installed and functions poorly. Also the finish on the pop up stopper assembly(polished brass) has worn off and though I installed it three years ago the it probably has not been used 100 times.

Comments about American Standard Universal Bath Drain:

As others have said, the drain assembly is worthless. I spent way to much time trying to get it to work. I never was satisfied with it, so replaced the drain mechanism with a simple push-pull. But now I'm having trouble finding a face plate to replace the piece of junk that came with it. Seems that the holes on this are a non-standard width.

Product has never worked right. Have spent hours trying to adjust. The drain either won't close completely or it will not open once tub is full.

We use the fingernail method to open and close our drain.

I am a pretty good DIY'r and had lots of trouble installing this thing. I though it was me for the first two hours, then after that knew it must be a lousy product. After reading the two reviews above me, I know it's not me. This drain stinks, don't even think about it.

I am installing the american standard 6060E Cadenza Elite Whirlpool and need to purchase a polished brass drain assembly. I read many negative reviews about the drain assembly P/N 1583.470. What other drain assemblies are available for the 6060E that are reliable? Once the tub is set in place, I won't have access to the drain assembly. Should I look for something other than American Standard to fit the 6060E Whirlpool? If so, what brand and model?

Plumber installed Cadet 5 x 42 whirlpool. We cannot get the universal drain assembly to work consistently. After a few turns of the knob it no longer works until I pull out the drain assembly and re-insert it, we have tried all of the linkage settings available for hours and still fails consistantly i.e. stays closed when trying to turn knob to open. The problem seems to be the area of the assembly that makes contact with the spring (coming down from the knob) it is too narrow and wanders off to the side after a few turns and no longer makes contact with the bottom of the spring. After reading a few reviews there seems to be others who are having the same difficulty. Is there a fix? Spending 2
