Comments about American Standard ACRYLUX 36" X 36" Shower Base:

I pulled out an old installation and installed a new AS 36X36 Acrylux kit and base. What a project. Being older construction nothing was perfectly square or plumb. The design is very unforgiving of this product and required me to plane or shim almost every 2X4 to get it to fit reasonably well. After 2 and 1/2 days it was complete. This is not the first kit I have installed and the first was nowhere near as difficult. I was expecting this to take about a day. Was I mistaken.

The product would be best marketed to new construction where plumb and square and 2X4 locations can be guaranteed. Look for something else for your re-mmodel.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

    On the base there are a couple of ledges which I believe are for the water to drain back into the shower. Could these openings allow water to get behind the wall and should these ever be filled with caulking?

    when installing durock for tiling around the shower base is it recommended to leave a gap to the shower base lip. should the durock go over the flange?
