Nice doors but incomplete

Comments about American Standard Euro Frameless Hinge Shower Doors w "D" handle:

I installed these doors today and discovered that there are no handles for the edges of the doors. This means that once you get into the shower by pulling a door open with the towel bar, you have to hook a fingernail on the towel bar to close it. If the other door is used to enter the shower, you have to hook a fingernail on the towel bar nut to open it, then close it by pulling on the towel bar. Is this an oversight or is it a bean counter ploy to save money? (Note that they are also not included in the packing list.) A similar door from another manufacturer that I installed in our other shower came with edge handles.

Service and delivery comments:

Delivery was good. The door arrived promptly and with only a minor bend in edge of frame.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

    Frameless pivot hinge (top/bottom) is dragging on side opposite hinges. How can I adjust the door to make the top to bottom opening along the non-hinge side wider to stop the glass from contacting the wall?

      A:

      It sounds as though there is an out of plumb condition on the wall. If that’s the case, they may need a custom filler strip.

      The only adjustment in these doors is how the hinge jamb and strike jamb are attached to the wall jambs.

      The main component is the gap between the glass and the strike jamb should be the same from top to bottom.

      A:

      That door will not fit; it is too big. Tell them to order model AM0304D.400.213. The appearance will be exactly the same and it’s designed to fit an opening between 34 3/16” – 35 1/16”.

      All of our doors have the metal framework that secures the unit in the opening such as the bottom track and wall jambs. However, a frameless door does not have the metal framework on the glass door panel itself.

    My shower opening is 23 3/4" wide. Will this door work? Or is the minimum opening really a firm 24"?

      The measurements listed in the book are specific…..you can always use a smaller door in a larger opening, but not vice versa.



      So to your answer your question – that door requires a minimum opening of 24 9/16”; it will not fit in an opening smaller than that.

    Hi-I also have 24" opening and noticed that on some web sites specs for brushed nickel would be too large for that opening. Is that correct? Also, re: earlier answer on panel size and hinges, is this door the right specs to fit in that 24" exactly opening? Thanks very much.

      The glass panel size is 22 ¾” x 63.5” and the pivot pin is located approximately 3 11/16” from the wall to the pivot point on the glass. The swing out measurement of the glass door will be approximately 20” (based on 24” opening).

    I have a fiberglass base with a small built-in taper (angles down towards the shower), are there any negatives associated with not installing the base plate with lip across the bottom? I see the installation manual says it can be done that way, but wondering if it would cause problems with the hinge or anything else. Any feedback would be appreciated!

      You need to go with the smaller door and add filler strips to your order. If you get a door too large it will not fit and you can't cut it down.

      The panel size on the AM0303D.400 is approximately 27 ¾” wide x 63 ½” high. It fits an opening between 28 5/8” – 30 1/8” once installed.
