        The faucet would leak after few years. There was so much residue that the faucet could not be removed. After spending a lot of time to remove the parts, the American standard says that there is no life time warranty on the faucet since I bought it [...]. So the whole faucet goes to the trash.

              I have the Hampton faucet set and one of the handles is extremely hard to turn (7471) - I called and was sent a replacement cartridge. I have removed the top cap and unscrewed the handle screw - hoping the lever handle base would pull off - it did not. Are there instructions for replacing the cartridge?

              • A:

                It may be that the nut holding the cartridge into the base is too tight. Try loosening it first to see if it works smoother. To replace the entire cartridge first turn of the water supply to both the hot and cold sides of the faucet. Then you need to take the trim off and undo the large nut holding the cartridge in the valve base. Then install the new cartridge in reverse and put the trim back in place. Turn the water on and see if it operates any better.

                If the handle is corroded on you can use some white vinegar or WD40 to remove it. The WD40 will ruin the seals but if you have the new cartridge it will be fine. If you need further assistance please contact our customer care line at 1-800-442-1902, prompts 1 and 4.

                A:

                You will need to remove the cartridge,you will need to apply a plumber's grease to the seals. This will keep the seals from getting dry and stretching, form a water-tight seal under the body, and allow the body to move from side to side easily. Plumber's grease is a non-petroleum based grease, usually made of silicon. Do not apply petroleum-based grease to the seals as they will deteriorate.

Unfortunately, the escutcheons do not quite cover the discolored rings remaining on the countertops from the previous faucets. Is there something available to add to the installation that will increase the diameter that is covered?
