Comments about American Standard Standard Collection Pedestal Sink:

To me this is the only sink to use when replacing a sink in a vintage bathroom with original tile floors. I have purchased two of them and recommend them to many people. They are taller than the old sinks, though, but this works as most people are taller now. I like that it is a reproduction of an original.

        • Q:

We built a house about 4 yrs ago and installed this sink in our bathroom. Shortly after installation, we noticed a moldy smell coming from the overflow. I notified the plumber, but told him it wasn't urgent- just if he was out our way to please come look at it. I usually deal with the odor by pouring some bleach in the sink and letting it run through the overflow. This works for a few days and then the smell is back. The smell will consume the entire bathroom. A few days ago, we needed the plumber to come look at our toilet, so I mentioned the sink again. I was told that it is probably a defect with the sink and my only option was to deal with it (keep pouring bleach down the overflow) or purchase a new sink. I was upset because my sink is barely 4 yrs old. I began looking for solutions on the internet and ran across a post that sounded very similar to what we had been experiencing. This person also had an American Standard sink, but his was the Retrospect pedestal sink.

            A:

This only happens when water has seeped thru the overflow hole, the internal part of the sink is not glazed which once water has gotten in there and sits it turns to mold. Only way to clean that is by using a turkey baster to put bleach or white vinegar to kill the mold.

        • Q:

This model was installed in the spring of 2004. We observe hair-line cracks around the drain and they seem to be getting worse. I believe this may have been caused by too much tightening of the drain fitting.
          Q/ Any other possibilities?
Q/What torque and other installation measures are recommended? I didn't see the installation.
Q/ Can I use a torque wrench to check for improper installation?
Help please. I am getting more upset every time I look at this.
Thank you for your consideration. /hjs/

The pedestal sink (model 0283.008) only comes in one size. There is another Standard Collection sink (model 0293.008) that's an inch less in width and maybe a half-inch less in depth, but it's made to drop into a countertop.

I have the pedestal sink from the Standard Collection with the faucet pictured. I cannot find model information for this faucet. I need repair parts (porcelain handle and valve parts). Any help appreciated.

I piped mine up through the floor, hiding the pipes in the pedestal. I suppose you could do it any way you want, depending on the look you want.
