Love this cadet tub

Comments about American Standard Cadet 5' x 32" with Integral Apron Bath Tub:

We purchased this tub during a recent bath remodel. We could not be happier. Keep in mind this tub is about 20" high, so you need to step over the apron to get in it. Most tubs are lower to step into. However, once you are in, it is wonderfully deep and comfortable to soak in. We had a friend install it and he did not support it properly, so each time we filled it with water, it would sink about 1/4"-1/2". Since we had finished the tile surround, our only solution was to cut the dry wall off the back wall, so we were able to come in from the back side of the bathroom, through the foyer wall and have the tub supported underneath. Now it is as solid as a rock.

We tiled our own bathroom and needed a new tub. The cadet makes our bathroom so rich looking. We did have a friend put the tub in for us. I have not found anything bad at this point. You will be happy!

How is this tub properly installed for support? Foam or mortar underneath? Does the tub have any insulation?

            A:

It is required to set the bottom of this tub in mortar, not foam. The tub is not insulated. Thank you.

            A:

The water depth to overflow on this tub is 14 12”. You can gain an extra 2” by using the 1640 Deep Soak Drain. All of our tubs have approximately 34 to 36 degrees of slope from vertical in the back rest. Thank you.

Can this tub be used in a tub/shower combo? All the pictures show it in a pure "soaking tub" but since the faucet comes from the wall it should be OK? This would be in our main bathroom so it would get a lot of use as a shower.

        • Q:

Can you tell me whether or not this specific model (Cadet 5' x 32" with Integral Apron) is available in a 5' x 30" size? I really like the features such as the molded arm rests and the lumbar support, along with the design on the front. I just don't have quite enough room for a 32" tub.

If it is not available in a 5' x 30" size, is there another collection with similar features in my size ?

            A:

            Hi Jack,

We're glad you noticed the great comfort features of the Cadet collection - these tubs were design for comfort and are some of our most popular models. Unfortunately we do not offer a Cadet model in a 5'x30" size.

We have two options you may consider: First is the Colony 5'x30" integral apron bathtub, and the second is the Acrylux 5'x30" tub. Of the two, the Colony provides a slightly deeper soak and features integral armrests for comfort.

            A:

            Hi Preacher,

Vikrell is a proprietary material used by Kohler under their Sterling brand. For more information you can visit their website.

For Americans Standard bathtubs, showers and wall sets at similar price points, such as our Acrylux Bath & Shower Fixtures, we use acrylic-capped ABS with fiberglass backing. The acrylic-cap provides beautiful gloss, lustre and scratch resistance, which the ABS ( the same material used for power tool housings) provides great durability. The fiberglass reinforcement makes the products very strong and rigid for a solid feel underfoot.
