Comments about American Standard Princeton Bath Tub with Integral Apron:

In 1990 was looking for a good substitute for cast iron, americast had just come out and the sales man at the supply house said it was the best thing sinced sliced bread. Having heard those word before I first installed it in my own house, after 21 years it still look great and works great. It is my standard tub for all instalations that the owner wants a tub shower combination. never had a recall, does't rust or rot like many steel tubs good product for any standard bath.

Comments about American Standard Princeton Bath Tub with Integral Apron:

We installed the Princeton Tub for our kids bathroom because of the kid-friendly features.

The water stays warmer much longer because of the Americast Brand Engineered Material used. Sometimes it works TOO GOOD because my kids never want to get out of the tub because the water is still warm.

The full slip-resistant surface is perfect for any age but especially for kids and the elderly. You don't have use flimsy stick-on slip resistant pads that can get moldy, the tub has a surface built in.

We also like how deeper, flatter and roomier the princeton tub is compared to cast iron tubs.

Over all, it is an excellent tub for any bathroom, but especially for kids bathrooms.

Read my full review on AkronOhioMoms website. My review was that of my own experience, thank you American Standard for the review items for my blog.

We have heard of several options for setting the Princeton tub to support the bottom. It is on a sub floor, cement backer board. Do we have to use cement or is there a lighter weight alternative?

Try a foam insulating product that is formulated to be enclosed. It has to dry properly since it wont have much air circulation to cure properly.

                  A:

You can use spray foam made for this or any type of bedding material for extra support. As long as the stringers are level it is not necessary.

I'm concerned about chipping. How durable is the porcelain finish and what is your warranty regarding chipping? Thanks, Gary

                • CUSTOMER CARE

                  A:

Anything that has a porcelain coating is not chip proof. Porcelain is chip resistant, however; if something hits the tub at a certain angle it is possible to chip away the paint. We do offer paint repair kits for these instances though.

              • Q:

What warranty is included against chipping the surface of the Princeton tub? I have a tub now (different brand) that chipped as a result of flexing (nothing fell on the surface) ... thus the question.

                • A:

Improper installatin would result in flexing. Thus the warranty should not be valid.

                • CUSTOMER CARE

                  A:

Chips are usually caused by impact and would not be covered under warranty. In a situation like this where nothing fell on it we would have to review it as a case to case basis.

I am currently installing this tub (left drain) replacing older tub in bathroom with uneven floor (approx 1/4" to 5/16" lower at right front). Should stringer be 13 5/8" from left front floor (aka high point) and then shim right front corner only (versus 5' tapered shim full length of tub) to level? Shim material .. wood (weight compression over time)? composite? Initial pass at this has lots of squeaking (not nailed to studs yet) w tub on wood stringer and wood shim ... about to start over

I remodeled my bathroom this past August, and used this tub. I really like it, instal was easy. But...today my 4 year old pulled the curtain rod down and it took a big chip out of the enamel on the back left side. Is there anyway I can fix this? I don't want to rip out the bottom row of tile, hardibacker etc to replace the tub. Help!

What is meant by porcelain finish? I was told that these tubs were just "sprayed with enamel". That doesn't sound like porcelain to me. If that's the case, I can just have someone come in, etch and spray my old cast iron tub with enamel for far less money.
