Water Savings @ Your Fingertips, Compliments of American Standard

Website and Downloadable App Makes Water Conservation Interactive and Fun

MIAMI, FL, SHECON 2011 (May 20, 2011) – Two interactive and educational online resourcesare the latest in a series of initiatives by American Standard Brands to raise awareness of practical water conservation solutions through award-winning product innovations and increased consumer choice.


The website gives everyone a chance to “go blue” in a fun and interactive environment where the goal is to educate visitors on simple steps they can take to decrease the amount of water they use each day. In doing so, consumers will cut their own water costs, as well as the fees their communities currently must pay to treat the water everyone uses. All of these reductions will increase available freshwater resources without adding new water treatment costs to strained municipal budgets.

“We want consumers to understand the ecological and cost-savings implications of today’s leading water-saving products,” said Steve Ferry, chief marketing officer for American Standard Brands. “We all need to conserve water, and The Responsible Bathroom helps us find ways to do so cost-effectively and without sacrifice.”

On the site, visitors can take the “Responsible Bathroom Pledge,” a personal challenge to begin saving water immediately. A “Water Savings Facts” section focuses on demonstrating the multiple ways water is used (and wasted). “Blue Success Stories” include water conservation success stories that document real-life examples of successful water efficiency installations, such as the complete satisfaction achieved among the 21 Atlanta, Georgia area homeowners who recently volunteered for American Standard’s offer to try WaterSense®-certified high-efficiency plumbing products and measure the difference in their water usage.


American Standard Brands also offers a free, mobile-device application that puts leading water conservation decision-making tools, facts and information at homeowners’ fingertips.

Available for download at, the Responsible Bathroom appallows users to calculate the cost savings of different products and conservation behaviors, locate product rebates, and even find the nearest retailer – all on their mobile phones. The app works with the Apple iPhone and other smartphones.

 “We know that American Standard will help to save 18 billion gallons of water this year, just based on forecasted installations of our home and commercial water-saving plumbing products,” said Ferry. “This new mobile tool will allow the estimated 270 million smartphone users to realistically forecast their monthly water bill savings, as well as their larger environmental contribution.”

The Responsible Bathroom App’s features include:

  • Water Savings Calculator– estimate your potential cost savings for various conservation behaviors and products using local municipal water rate data.
  • Rebate Locator– find local incentives for purchasing water-efficient products (as high as $300 for each new high-efficiency toilet installed). 
  • Blue Success Stories– read real-life examples of water-efficiency projects and resulting cost and environmental savings.
  • Twitter– follow water conservation tips, strategies and success stories.
  • Social Media– send your friends and followers instant updates through Facebook and Twitter.

“The Responsible Bathroom App is another opportunity to engage eco-conscious consumers and provide smartphone users with a tool that demonstrates American Standard’s century-old commitment to water conservation,” explained Ferry. “A homeowner can be standing in a store aisle and use this resource to compare the cost implications of a particular decision, learn of available rebates and purchase incentives, or double-check the efficiency of a product.”
