This is an affordable and reasonably stylish faucet that I was happy with until it started leaking, after 4 years of light use, at which time I replaced it with a heavier duty faucet.

Comments about American Standard Colony Soft Two-Handle Gooseneck Kitchen Faucet:

the faucet lasted a year and perhaps four months before one of the valves went....handle came off and water came blasting out....happened because of corrosion.....nut holding the valve down was not brass like the faucet body....could not repair it since the threads for the nut were compromised from the corrosion....would not recommend at all.....if you do buy it, make sure to keep the receipt....without it, you will have wasted time and money....

            • Q:

I am installing a new Colony two handled faucet. The sink is old and it is not so level. I am planning to use a sealant under the faucet. I have a tube of DAP Kwik Seal kitchen and bath adhesive caulk. Is this a reasonable product to use with this faucet? I will do a major kitchen remodel and change the sink om the future, but in the meantime the faucet has to be replaced. I assume the new sink may not require sealant. Thank you!

American Standard just sent me replacement parts of O ring and Spout Clip Ring. How do I get to put the new O ring on?
Asked on 3/18/2011 by Gene from Bellevue Ne

              1 answer

              • CUSTOMER CARE

                A:

To take these parts off, you would do the following:

                1. Turn the water supply off.
                2. Place a piece of felt around the base of the spout where the spout flange is and use and adjustable wrench to loosen.
                3. This spout flange is difficult to move, and may require that you take a vinegar and water solution to loosen any sediment that may have built up on the bottom of the faucet. In extreme build-up cases, you can try CLR, apply it, wait 1-2 minutes, and then thoroughly sponge the area off.
                4. After the spout flange is loosened, pull directly up on the spout to remove it. You may have to work the spout back and forth to loosen and pull it away from the threaded base.
                5. Take a vinegar and water solution to clean all parts of the gooseneck and the threaded base while the spout is off.
                6. Remove the old O-ring (you may have to cut it off) by pulling it off with a strong pair of needle nose.
                7. Apply the new O-ring (and clip, if provided)
                8. Place silicon-based plumber's grease on the O-ring.
                9. Put the spout back onto the cleaned threaded base.
                10. Tighten the spout nut or flange.
                11. Turn on the water.

I have this Colony model for my kitchen and the small one model for the bathroom counter since April. They work great but lately both models handles make a loud, dry sound every time we open the faucet. Of course, is the cold water handle on both. It's like they need oil or WD-40 (no luck with it). What should I do? Thanks in advance.
