Comments about American Standard Culinaire Top Mount Dual Level Kitchen Sink:

HOW I USE THE PRODUCT:
I cook quite a bit for my family, church functions and entertain a lot. The dual-level sink is exceptional in many ways. The larger basin fits everything from commercial cookie sheets/trays to 16 quart canning pots while the smaller sink basin is perfect for the smaller items such as the tableware, serving utensils, shot glasses and delicate/fragile items.
When making large quantities, I've used the sink as a mixing bowl for potato/pasta salad when I make 25+ pounds of salads.
Have also filled up the sink with ice and beverages when entertaining - it's PERFECT!!!
It's even perfect for bathing grandchildren (babies/toddlers), small dogs and cats. I frequently bathe my Himalayan cat in the sink too!
I also use the sink for mopping the entire downstairs floors instead of using a mop bucket. Perfect height, easy on your back!
THINGS THAT ARE GREAT ABOUT IT:
The versatility of the sink is just amazing to me!!! NEVER thought I'd use the sink as a cooler let alone a mixing bowl!
THINGS THAT AREN'T SO GREAT ABOUT IT:
The quality of the steel could be a lot better than what it is. I left a quality knife in the sink with a few other items when we went out of town, when I came home, I had rust spots underneath the items left in the sink which is disappointing.

  • Q:

I just bought the following item as a replacement for my top mount dual basin kitchen sink (33 x 22 cutout). Both drains on this Culinaire dual level sink are deep set, to the back of the sink (not centered like with my current sink) - is that a problem for installing a garbage disposal with this sink ? (not enough clearance to accomodate the diameter of the garbage disposal ?) Is this sink designed for use with a garbage disposal ? I plan to hire a professional plumber for the installation.

You should check with your local plumber to verify that there would be enought clearance.

  • Q:

I want to replace a drop in porcelain kitchen sink with a stainless steel sink. The existing opening is 31 1/4 to 31 1/2 inches wide, 20 1/2 inches deep. It seems that 33 inches wide is a standard, but those sinks won't fit in my cut out. They would if the sink was bonded down, and not clamp down. The clamping feature interfers with the counter top. Otherwise I would need to find a sink 32 1/4 x 21 1/4. Any suggestions?

I just bought a townhouse that had been remodeled within the last year and this sink was installed in the kitchen. I am noticing stains on the sink that will not come off. I have tried everything I can find. Any suggestions? Is this a defect?
Asked on 5/28/2011 by New Home Owner from Hazard, KY

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

Maintenance for stainless steel sinks: To keep the original quality of your Stainless Steel Sink, we recommend regular cleaning. Use a mild liquid dish detergent and water to clean the product after use. Rinse carefully and dry. Please have the following in mind: Don't let water or other liquids dry on the product. Liquids that are left to dry leave a grey build-up stain on the steel.
Stainless steel can stand hard treatment, but sharp objects can easily scratch the surface. these scratches are more visible when the product is new. After a period of use these marks will be smoothed out without the product losing it luster. Never use scouring powder or steel wool to clean the surface. Apart from the risk of scratches, there is also a risk that rust stains will attack the steel. Avoid Chlorine-based solutions from coming into contact with the stainless steel.
Silver polish leaves spots that cannot be removed. Acidic foods (e.g. juices, salt, mustard, mayonnaise, etc.) must be cleaned up immediately. Discoloration: More stubborn spots are often caused by impurities in the water or household substances. These can be removed with special polish agents for stainless steel. Dull spots can become lustrous again if rubbed with chalk on a soft cloth.

I have an American Standard 7179 Americast Sink that needs to be replaced with a Stainless Steel Sink that fits the Granite Counter Top opening. I know the Americast Sink has been discontinued but what options do I have. I do not want to replace the countertop. I don't care if the new sink is undermount of overmount.

  • Q:

We recently purchased an American Standard sink and really like it. However, I am not a plumber and am seeing minor leaks where I attache the plastic pipe to the sink drain under the sink. I am using a plastic bushing that was included with the metal threaded piece that holds the tube to the drain and am still seeing some water leak. I am afraid to over tighten this part and am wondering if I should be using plumber's putty or some sort of rubber washer to prevent leaking? Any advice.
