American Standard Brands President receives ESGR “Seven Seals Award” and signs Statement of Support for the National Guard and Reserve
Dennis M. McCarthy, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs, announced that Mr. Donald C. Devine, president and chief executive officer of American Standard Brands, signed a Statement of Support for the National Guard and Reserve.
WASHINGTON - The Honorable Dennis M. McCarthy, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs, announced today that Mr. Donald C. Devine, president and chief executive officer of American Standard Brands, signed a Statement of Support for the National Guard and Reserve.
With their Statement of Support, American Standard Brands pledged:
• To recognize and support our country’s Reserve and National Guard service members and their families in peace, in crises and in war.
• To assure their managers and supervisors will have the tools they need to effectively manage those employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve.
• To fully recognize, honor and enforce the Uniformed Services Employment and Re-Employment Rights Act (USERRA).
“I’d like to sincerely thank American Standard Brands for their commitment. Today they join a growing roster of major corporations, state and federal agencies, employer associations, and thousands of American employers who have pledged their support to our troops,” said McCarthy. “A Statement of Support serves two very vital functions: First, it publicly demonstrates the strong level of support for our Guard and Reserve, which is important during this critical time. Second, it affirms to our service members that their civilian job will be there for them when they return from serving our country.”
“At the Department of Defense we know that our people represent valuable assets; and companies like American Standard seem to agree. They realize that Citizen Warriors bring a strong work ethic, leadership and other skills to the workplace,” McCarthy added. “I ask that all of America’s employers consider placing a priority on hiring the men and women of our Reserve and National Guard.”
“I am deeply honored to sign this Statement of Support for the National Guard and Reserve on behalf of American Standard Brands,” said Mr. Devine. “It is important to provide service members peace of mind in knowing their jobs will be waiting for them upon their return to civilian life after they have served our country. At American Standard, we see it as our duty to provide pay and benefit protections for our employees called into active service. Our policies are designed to recognize the critically important contributions these employees are making on behalf of all Americans and to do as much as we can to lessen the financial hardship on them and their families.”
In addition to the Statement of Support signing, Mr. Devine received the prestigious ESGR “Seven Seals Award” from Secretary McCarthy. The Seven Seals Award is the only Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve award that bridges both the employer and ESGR volunteer recognition awards program. It was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide significant achievement, initiative or support that promotes and supports the ESGR mission.
