American Standard Ultra High Efficiency Flush Valves Cut Water Usage 87% and Reduce Maintenance
Self-Cleaning Brass Pistons Prevent Clogging; Reduce Maintenance
CHICAGO, IL, GREENBUILD EXPO (November 17, 2010) — New ultra high efficiency manual urinal flush valves cut water consumption by as much as 87 percent, while providing clog-free, low maintenance performance when installed on an 0.125 gallons per flush (gpf) urinal.
The new Manual FloWise® Flush Valves from American Standard have self-cleaning brass valves with integral wiper springs that prevent clogs and deliver reliable operation with less maintenance.
High efficiency and ultra high efficiency models feature FloWise water-saving technology that conserves between 50 percent and 87 percent of the water used by a standard urinal. For example, close to 16,000 gallons of water are saved annually with the 0.125 gpf valve versus a standard 1.0 gpf urinal.
The piston-operated valves also save water because they will stay shut in the event of water pressure disruption. In contrast, a diaphragm-operated valve will often remain open, causing the water to run continuously in urinals and toilets after pressure is restored. “To stop the water flow in that case, someone must walk the entire building, jiggling the handle of every open flush valve,” said Tony D’Amato, senior product manager, commercial faucets, for American Standard. “In a large structure with numerous washrooms, that’s quite labor-intensive, with water needlessly wasted in the process.”
The flush valves are ADA-compliant and feature non-hold open handles that automatically shut off after every flush. Chemical-resistant EPDM seals are unaffected by chloramines and other chemicals, ensuring leak-free operation.
The Manual FloWise is one of 34 flush valve, toilet and urinal systems from American Standard designed to work flawlessly together to provide the best value for the money with labor-saving installation and no-call back operation.
Suggested list prices range from $210 (for the valve only) to $585 (for the urinal and flush valve). All flush valves are covered by a five-year warranty.
