Comments about American Standard New Salem Recess Bath Enameled Steel:

I love the shape of my tub for a relaxing bath. It is easy to keep clean, and the design is just right.
We have four small grandchildren that visit. I feel good about the non slip on bottom when the stand and play.
Thank you for such awesome products.

All Enameled Steel tubs must have a slip resistant material applied. Enameled Steel tubs less this feature are not available.

    • Q:

What does it mean that it has a "full slip-resistant surface"? Does this mean the bottom is textured or that the coating over the entire tub is somehow slip resistant?

    • Q:

In the process of having this tub installed. It is replacing a cast iron tub. The metallic and drum type noises it produces worries me. Is there anything to be done to make this unit not resemble an old time wash tub?

Bathbuilder.com says put some encapsulated insulation around and under the tub making sure that the foam support pad is in contact with the subfloor. This will cut down on the tin sound. We also set the foam pad into thinset mortar using a 1/4" notched trowel. That helps stabalize the tub from movement and keeps the pad in its original installed position.

        A:

The enamel steel tub is a low cost alternative to Cast Iron and Americast. It is very light and easily installed but it does have a "metal" feel to it. However, steel tubs have been around a long time and will perform well.
