Comments about American Standard Portsmouth FloWise Pressure Balance Shower:

Only negative feedback on this is that the face plate trim is plastic and feels cheap. Water marks are left on the face trim easily.

    • Q:

We have an older model tub faucet by American Standard, however it is the same type of flip up design, had a face plate with a screw behind it. We took the screw out without, however, it would not budge. Our question is how do we remove the handle, it doesn't seem to want to come off so that we can replace the shower wall. Do you have a solution for us? Thank you.

        A:

If the screw is out and the handle still will not come out, it sounds as though the handle may be just corroded on from the water. You can try to use some white vinegar to reduce that corrosion or WD40. But WD40 will ruin your seals so unless you are planning on replacing them I would not suggest that .

I JUST INSTALLED A PORTSMOUTH SHOWER HEAD .HOW DO YOU CHANGE THE SPRAY TYPE ON THE HEAD? WHEN I TURN THE DIAL IT JUST SPRINGS BACK TO THE FIRST SETTING.IS THERE A TRICK TO IT OR IS THERE A PROBLEM WITH IT?I WOULD THINK IT WOULD CLICK AT EACH SPRAY TYPE.PLEASE ADVISE AS IT IS BRAND NEW. • CUSTOMER CARE

        A:

As long as you have adequate water pressure to the unit (20psi), there isn't any reason that it should not stay in position, knowing that it resets itself back to it's original state when the water is shut off. If this is not the case call into the warranty / technical line at 1-800-442-1902 options 1-4-1 to receive a warranty replacement.

    • Q:

I would like to use this set, but replace the shower head with a hand and slide bar. Is this feasible? Is #1662.143 a good match?
Is there a water saving set that has the tub faucet and slide bar hand shower all in one?

      • CUSTOMER CARE

        A:

The use of a hand held shower with a slide bar is an acceptable option. The combination or your choice may be used. There are some other options related to the second part of your question. Provided is a link below to review those options.

    • Q:

Hi there - I have a home built in 2001 with an American Standard tub/shower faucet. I'm assuming I can upgrade to a new faucet/finish that would work with the existing rough valve in the wall? Please confirm. Thank you!

        A:

Yes you should be able to do that. However, we did still have several types of valves at that time. So, it is better to confirm what exactly you have to be sure you can use the existing rough. Do you know what you currently have installed that we could double check that for you?

    • Q:

Hi, I’m doing a complete renovation of my daughters’ bath and would like to use this bath shower valve. My concern is I would like to incorporate a shutoff valve to turn off the tub spout. I know that the tub spout has a pull up shutoff (diverter) but I have not been happy with their operation. Is it possible to use an inline shutoff valve to divert the water to the shower head? What model numbers should I look for and would it be available in a trim to match the Portsmouth trim in satin nickel.

      • CUSTOMER CARE

        A:

Yes, you may use an independent shut off valve. The R701 Volume control valve would be the valve to use in this application.
