I have had this shower faucet for a few years now and recently I have been loosing hot water. If I turn it to hot while its on it won't change till I turn it off then on. Now even doing that it won't give me hot water. The only way I can get the water hot is to turn off the cold supply. Catridge 1674 is clean.

I installed the shower new, but the shower head drips...not much but enough to be irritating. It drips about 1 drop per 15-30 min. I have taken the handle off and tried to adjust it, but it still drips. Any suggestions?

      • CUSTOMER CARE

        A:

The entire valve will likely require replacement. This is certain if it is not an American Standard Faucet. If it is an American Standard faucet and the escutcheon screws line up, you may be able to only replace the trim.

    • Q:

I purchased a new cartridge to replace my old one on my 1674. The seal between the pressure balancing unit and the cartridge is leaking. When installing the new cartridge I used waterproofing grease and slowly tightened the screws as not to compress the gaskets too much and damage them. Eventually the screws were tightened as far as they could go and the leaking continued the whole tightening process. What am I missing?

      • CUSTOMER CARE

        A:

The pressure balance unit that sits directly behind the cartridge may be causing the leak.

    • Q:

My AS 1674 is a little over one year old. Recently water pressure had dropped (both hot and cold) and water dribbles out for about 15 seconds after it is turned off. What part do I need to clean or replace? I looked at the cartridge and pressure balancing unit but couldn't figure out how to clean either.

      • CUSTOMER CARE

        A:

The pressure balance unit and the cartridge should simply be replaced to alleviate this problem.

    • Q:

I have an old american standard shower valve since 1995 when i bought the house. My problem is there is no pressure of hot water coming out but the cold water pressure is good and working. Is it possible to take out old pressure balancing unit. if it is how?

      1 answer

      • CUSTOMER CARE

        A:

Remove the handle using a 3/32" hex wrench, then remove the cartridge cover. The cartridge will be held in place by either 3 or 4 screws depending upon the exact year of product, the pressure balance unit in directly behind the cartridge.
