Comments about American Standard Complete Hand Shower System Kit - 3 Function:

You will need to supply the 1/2" nipple fitting to attach the shower head conversion piece (wall supply elbow). Buy multiple lengths to get the right one (depth) for a flush wall fit.

    • Q:

How do I remove the cap ends. When I bought this, the ends were already attached and I can't figure out how to remove them in order to install to wall. Maybe this was a return and somebody attached them in order not to lose them. I don't want to pry too hard, as I am afraid to break or crack them.

    • Q:

What parts of this system are metal and which are plastic? Could the bar be removed and replaced with another brand in the future once it is installed?

The wall supply and bar are metal, to answer the second part of the question...it could be possible but I would not recommend it.

    • Q:

How do you transition the water flow between a regular wall-mounted showerhead and the handshower? Is there a switch on this system?

This shower system is not set up to function with a regular wall mounted shower head. The hand shower can be used as a standard shower by leaving it in the holder on the slide bar.

You would have to buy a 2-way diverter and attach to shower nipple. Then attach shower head to one end and hose for hand shower to other end. Mine has a push button on diverter to change the water flow between the showerhead and hand shower. The hand shower hose at diverter end won't be flush with wall and may look a little odd, but functions just fine. Too bad this hand shower doesn't have a button to switch water off and on while using it, would be a lot more convenient.

    • Q:

On the 1662.600 hand shower kit, your spec sheet indicates that the shower head could be adjusted to 45-degrees. Is there any way to modify this in the field to a greater angle? In a small shower stall (e.g. 3838Y1) it is more functional to have the shower head spray almost straight down rather than angled over the top of your head.
