We have an older home with a 10" rough for the toilet. I check all the big box stores in our area and could not find one with the quality I wanted. I looked on line found the American Standard, it was just what I wanted. It took me about 45 minutes to remove the old toilet and install the new one.

Q:
I have mold buildup around the rim of the toilet. Is this normal? I don't see any leaking and i leave the cover up since i first noticed it.

  Under normal conditions, there should not be an excessive amount of mold build up and may be due to water conditions. for example, well water that has not been treated can contribut to a faster growth of mold.

Q:
What can I use to clean the inside of the bowl of a toilet with the EverClean surface? (We have a Titan 4.) The manual says to use soap and water, but the bowl is developing a brown color and there is 'stuff' left on the bowl that needs scrubbed off. Can I use regular toilet cleaners (TidyBowl, etc.)? We have very hard water - it it OK to use Lime Away or vinegar to remove the hard water ring?

  A:
  You can use Lime Away or Vinegar on the inside of the bowl. Do not let it sit very long, and be sure to clean the toilet with soap and water after you are finished. Also any regular in bowl cleaner is fine. You will want to make sure you do not use any in-tank cleaners.

My husband installed the Cadet 3 in our remodeled bathroom. I noticed soon after that it was continuously running water to fill the tank. I would flush it. The tank would run till it filled then stop, but within the next hour to two hours it would be running again. This interval as decreased and now it seems to be filling about every half hour to 45 minutes. It has done this for quite a while. Please tell me what needs to be fixed inorder to correct this.

  These are the same product with the exception that the .813 has a tank with the trip lever on the right hand side of the tank.

I just installed a Cadet 3 Model 5281.510. When flushing, one must hold the handle down for a second or two for it to flush. Is this the way it was designed. We are just used to pushing handle down quickly and releasing it right away.

  Gravity and Pressure assisted tanks can not be mixed and matched. They are designed specifically to work with the corresponding bowls and can not be interchanged.

I just installed a cadet 3 with a flowise right height el bowl n umber 3016001.020. I have the bolts and flange at 12 inch rough in. When finished installing the tank is two inches from the wall. Do I have the wrong toilet?

  The rough in will depend on the type of tank used. The specification for this toilet is 1" +/- 1/4". The tank may be leaning forward somewhat exagerating the distance from the finished wall.
