Comments about American Standard Cadet 3 FloWise Round Front Toilet:

I used this to replace an old builder's toilet that always clogged and had tons of nooks and crannies that made it hard to clean. This toilet was a nice surprise. After more than a year it has never clogged, it is really easy to clean, and it wasn't very expensive. I'd recommend this. The only downside to it is that the tank does move a little on the rubber gasket, making it feel a little less sturdy than it probably is. An extra bold to attach it in a triangle configuration would probably have taken care of this.

Comments about American Standard Cadet 3 FloWise Round Front Toilet:

Was hesitant going with a "low-flow" (1.28 GPF) toilet due to horror stories from friends. I did do a lot of research prior to choosing the Cadet 3 Flowise, and it seemed to be the best choice to balance performance vs. price. After installing them (I did all 3 in my house); i was AMAZED at the performance ! Much better than the older original ones that used 3 times the amount of water. I don't feel like I sacrificed anything in the way of performance for the reasonable price. To make matters even better, I noticed substantial savings on my water bill right away !

        Needs several flushes with waste

Comments about American Standard Cadet 3 FloWise Round Front Toilet:

With number "1" the flush is OK and seems to get rid of it.

With number "2" it sometimes takes up to five flushed to clear the bowl. There is so little water in the bowl that the waste sticks to the bowl above the water line and then you have to flush several times to clear it out. Therefore you end up wasting water.

With every flush, a little water splashes up on the seat or top of the rim.

Comments about American Standard Cadet 3 FloWise Round Front Toilet:

Pulled the old toilet out because flushes were slowing down in flush power. Researched and purchased this toilet because of comments about strong flush. When the flush valve on this toilet is pressed, it opens up a 3" valve which dumps the water from the holding tank into the bowl very quickly. Bowl contents are gone in no time! Uses much less water than old toilet and tank fills fast. No problems with the install and purchased a kit that had everything in there and I was ready to go. Pleased with this purchase. American Standard is also well known so replacement tank parts can be found readily.

I am replacing a toilet with an 11 inch rough-in (wall to center of the bolt). Will the existing rough-in accommodate this model toilet, which has a 12 inch rough-in?

You should be fine. Mine was 11 1'2" from bolt to wall and I had almost 3" to spare at the base and exactly 1" from the wall to tank.

              A:

You generally can not go up in rough inches you would need a 10" rough however if you want a 12" rough in toilet we suggest that you dry rough in the toiket to be sure you will have enough room between the tank and the wall.

          • Q:

I bought a new cadet 3 2800.500st and installed it. Leaked from the bowl to tank connection. Called the AS rep and they said loosen of the tank mounting bolts and then retighten going 1/4" turn on each side. Did that and then the tank cracked. Bought same one, noticed a defect in the original bowl but still have the same problem of a leak between the bowl and tank connection on the new one. The instructions seem simple, I've watched videos, the toilet is level, bought a new supply line. Afraid to tighten the bolts to much again and break the tank. Any suggestions? Is it normal to have some water between the tank and bowl? I stick a peice of toilet paper in the back and there is always water being absorbed. Can I use a silicone on the bowl to tank gasket?

              A:

No there should be no water between the tank and the bowl. The tank is meant to fit securely onto the bowl. The tank to bowl gasket, which is very thick, gives the impression that the tank cannot fit further down onto the bowl. If the tank was placed onto the back of the bowl, without the gasket between them, and they can be placed flush together, then that is the optimum placement for the connection. When the gasket is between them, you will have a slight difference in placement, but the tank should sit in the same position.

The best way to install the tank is to place the tank directly over the bolt holes to see how the tank will fit onto the bowl. This is not a necessary step but may help inexperienced installers. Be careful not to slam the tank down or the china may crack. After seeing how to place the tank, pull the tank off, put the gasket on the bottom of the tank, and then reapply the tank as you did before. Have a helper gently shift the tank down and back so that it stays in position. Keep tightening the bolts by hand, a little on each side, until you cannot tighten any more. Then use a wrench or deep socket wrench to tighten each side 1/4 turn until the tank meets the bowl. The tank should never rock or be loose. If it is, it is not tightened down properly, and you may have to remove the tank and try starting the process over. If you are concerned that you may break the tank, wait a week for the gasket to flatten out and retighten another 1/4 turn each side until snug. Do not over-tighten the bolts or the tank will crack under the pressure.

The 2829.128 Cadet3 FlowWise Round Front toilet uses a 1.28 gpf flush and a 12 inch rough-in per the spec sheet diagram. The 2830.128 is the same configuration except it uses a 10 inch rough-in. If you're not sure which one you need, measure the distance from your wall to your toilet mounting location in the floor.

The toilet is manufactured in Mexico.

Because of the nature of vitreous chinaware, there is little recycled material (<5%) in the toilet. American Standard uses about 35% recycled material in the packaging for the toilet, and the packaging is recyclable.
