I thought I was going to break the toilet while mounting the tank. It never made porcelain to porcelain contact on the back nubs on the toilet. It only made contact with the front of the tank before I gave up because it sounded like the tank bolt nuts were breaking through the porcelain. The instructions do not give details on what is proper assembly. I have done 4 other toilets before,and this one gave me reason to think something is'nt going right.

Over the years the toilets I have in my house did not work well - clogged easily and often. I asked a local plumber for a recommendation and he said: "Hands down the best toilet on the market is the American Standard Champion." I just replaced my three toilets with the American Standard Champion 4 and they work great! Amazing technology improvement for such an old standby such as a toilet. The way these toilets have been performing, I may never need a plunger again.

We bought this toilet to replace the existing one in our powder room. We could not be happier, since we've installed it back in mid-2009 we have not had to worry about a single clog! In fact, come tax return time, we're going to get two more for our upstairs bathrooms! THANK YOU American Standard for making a toilet that works!

I was sold after seeing the videos of the toilet flushing a bucket of chicken nuggets.
The toilet was very easy to assemble and install. While the unit is longer than most, it is also thinner. The smaller width of the toilet allows for more room surrounding it.

We just moved back into the house I grew up in, my parents having lived here for fifty years, and the old American Standard Turqoise Toilet that had serviced the house in the only bathroom finally refused to flush. We figured if one toilet can last fifty years and raise three kids in one bathroom, we'd better replace it with another American Standard, and that's exactly what we did.

Q:
Pressing the flush handle down momentarily, like you would do for most toilets, only lets a small portion of the water from the tank siphon through the toilet. (The flapper closes immediately.) Holding the handle down for 3 to 4 seconds lets much more water drain. This was not advertised as a dual flush toilet, is there something wrong with the flushing mechanism or is there an adjustment needed?

  This unit is not a dual flush toilet if you are holding the lever down the flapper is stuck in the open positon, you may shorten the chain on the flapper so all you need to do is trip the lever and walk away.

Q:
I just purchased a Champion 4 and water in the bowl is low. Is there any adjustment to bring the level up? The water level now is approximately 7 3/4" from top of rim to the water.

  A:
  Thank you for your questions about your toilet. The test for the acceptable water level in the bowl is to fill the bowl slowly from a 3-gallon bucket. Once the bowl seems to reach the same water level, regardless of how much water is put into it, then it is at the normal level for that bowl. In order to increase the amount of water in the bowl you want to :
  
  1. Make sure that the supply line is fully open.
  2. Make sure that the refill hose is in the refill tube.
  3. Raise the Fluidmaster float cup by screwing it up about a 1/2" at a time.
  4. Flush the toilet and see if the water level rises in the bowl. You may want to take a grease pencil and mark where the original water line was before adjustments were made.
  5. If you need to, raise the level of the Fluidmaster again. You can safely raise it to 1/2" from the top of the refill tube.
  6. If you still do not have enough water in the bowl, you can pull off the refill hose from the Fluidmaster Water Control, remove the flow restrictor, and replace the refill hose. This will cause water to fill faster into the bowl, before the tank fills up.
  
  If you still have problems, you need to call one of our representatives to further diagnose the problem. The specs listed on your website for the Champion 4 indicate a 2 3/8 inch trap way. However, the specs listed on the Lowes web site for all Champion 4 models indicate a 2 inch trap way. Can you clarify?

Q:
I have owned this toilet for about 1 year. The valve has been leaking off approximately 1/2 inch of water every 15 minutes. I have cleaned the seal and also after the flush, reset the plunger seal, however, it still continues to leak off. Will replacing the flush valve solve the problem?

My Champion toilet is a few year old,still works ok and it still carries everything away when flushed... but we do not get that power flush that it had when it was new. What do I need to do to get that power flush again ???

Q:
I have just installed a Champion 4 Elongated Toilet and have a leak at the tank to bowl gasket when I flush it. I drained the tank and removed it, inpsected the gasket and placement and found nothing obvious. I very carefully relocated the tank onto the bowl and held it centered while a helper began tightening the bolts. This was done slowly and we alternated from side to side to bring it down evenly. We made sure we had china to china contact (by slipping a piece of toliet paper between the contact points until there was no gap) but still have the leak as soon as we flush. There is a plastic insert in the bowl that says not to remove but that piece is not shown in the instruction book. Is it really supposed to be there? Can it be the cause of a bad seal?

What do you recommend as a next step?

  A:
  The plastic insert (horn) is supposed to be in the bowl. It directs water between the rim holes and the jet hole. The problem you are describing would be caused by a bad tank to bowl gasket. Please contact customer service at 1-800-442-1902 and they will be able to send you a replacement under the 10 year warranty.

  It is 15 1/4 from the floor to the rim of the bowl. Lowes and/or Home Depot are our biggest retail distributors, if they do not have one in stock they should be able to special order it.
