Comments about American Standard Compact Cadet 3 Right Height EL Toilet:

The product worked great at first, but in less than 2 years the flow value would not stop water flow at the proper level. The product paperwork that came with the toilet did not provide information for adjustment to the flow value. Since I had registered the product in the proper timeframe factory replacement of parts was quick and easy. I expect the replacement part within 5-7 days

Comments about American Standard Compact Cadet 3 Right Height EL Toilet:

My toilet leaked at the flush valve assemble right out of the box. At first I thought the flapper or the valve seat was at fault. After calling customer service and talking about the problem, I was sent a replacement flapper (this was not the part they said they were sending me). [...] The valve still leaked after replacing the flapper. After removing the flush assembly from the tank, I discovered a flaw in the tank casting that was causing the leak. After 30 minutes of grinding and sanding the flaw to remove it, I was able to re-assemble all the parts with success. No more leak. It's very unfortunate that I had to go through all this because of poor quality control at the factory in Mexico.

              Service and delivery comments:

See product comments.. The customer service person I talked to gave me the impression that she had better things to do than to help me with my problem.

You can use any toilet bowl cleaner as long as it is not abrasive. You can also use a soft nylon brush. There is a cleaner called The Works (thick) and it is a good cleaner.

I have installed this toilet, but for two weeks have been trying several approaches to get one of the bolts securing the tank to the bowl to stop leaking. I have tried replacing the washers, working with how tight the bolts are and have inspected for any cracks, but haven't seen any. One bolt works just great, but the other is being difficult. Any help you can offer would be much appreciated! Thanks!

I want to buy and install myself a Cadet 3 toilet with right height and elongated bowl (2386 series). My floor connection is 11.5 inches from the wall. Can I use one with 12 inch rough?

                    A:

This should work, but be aware as this is a 12' rough-in, that if the tank ends up hitting the wall then a 10" tank will be necessary. Make sure you are not buying a "compact" or "spacesaver" as these are 12" bowls using 10" tanks so that an elongated bowl could fit in the space of a round front bowl.

CAdet 3 that will not hold flapper valve open on flushing. No yellow float on the one I have. Should there be? operation is the same with the chain in the position it came in. close to flush valve or all the way to the #1 position by the fill valve. Chain can not be set to any other tension or will open flapper and I have a slow leak.

                • Q:

One of my Cadet 3 toilets has streaks of black coming from the holes under the rim that put fresh water into the bowl after flushing. We have to clean the bowl at least once a week. My plumber and the local Water Engineer have suggested that I use a cleansing tablet (chlorine or bleach) in the toilet tank to kill the fungus, mold, or bacteria assumed to be causing the problem -- the toilet is in a high humidity room. I am reluctant to use a caustic substance that might ruin the plumbing mechanism in the tank. What's the problem and how do I fix it?

                    A:

If you use intank cleaners it will void your warranty as they are abrasive to the internal parts. You will need to use some white vinegar to clean the tank as the vinegar will kill any bacteria. You may have to do this often if you have hard water or if the bacteria comes back.

I am trying to replace the flush valve on what I think is an American Standard Compact Cadet Right Height toilet. With most toilets I would detach the tank and then remove the bolt on the bottom holding the flush valve. But since the tank is attached, I do not know how to remove the flush valve. Does it just unscrew?

                    A:

There should be 3 screws beneath the flapper that when loosened will allow the mounting tabs to rotate. This will allow for the removal of the flush valve.

After flush water level in bowl gives a 9 inch diameter water surface which soon drops to the 2 1/2 x 4 inch size of the outlet.Fecal matter usually sticks to the dry porcelain surface requiring more flushes and often a toilet brush. When flushed at this low water level there is usually enough blow back to send drops of the bowl content out of the bowl. Is this normal function? Can it be repaired?

You will want to adjust the length of the chain. Usually if it is too long it will slam right down.
