Comments about American Standard Retrospect Elongated Right Height Toilet:

Often the bowl does not empty completely even though the tank does. I suspected this was happening and put about a dozen ice cubes in the bowl and flushed it. Sometimes most of the ice cubes remained in the bowl after the flush. Other times the bowl emptied out well. I hope to get this unit to perform better.

Comments about American Standard Retrospect Elongated Right Height Toilet:

We replaced our "builder's special" toilet in our downstairs powder room with this model and are very happy with it. No more plugging situations (very embarrassing for guests), much lower water usage, and much better looking. I'm ordering another model for my master bathroom.

            Service and delivery comments:

I originally tried ordering this toilet from an online retailer (big mistake) The parts kept arriving cracked or broken and big hassles returning. I tried another online retailer and same problem! They blamed the shipper, the shipper blamed the retailers. Needed AMEX to step in and resolve charges. Finally went to a local bathroom design retail store, ordered it and picked it up myself. No problems, but paid more $.
American Standard should improve their packing methods to survive the UPS abuse.

the quality of the construction was nice. I too bought the set sink and toilet. Installation was good instructions were good. but mainitnance of the guts of the toilet are another story,,, the flush valve is difficult and it runs and runs... not enough to warrant more of my time but the plastic does not permit fine tuning and the flapper has to settle just right and barely covers the hole.... ahhh the frustration

Comments about American Standard Retrospect Elongated Right Height Toilet:

I selected this toilet to coordinate with an imported (Italian) ceramic-legged console sink that I purchased for my master bath. The toilet that matched the sink did not have the 12" plumbing rough in which is standard on most American products, and since the plumbing work was already completed, I had to look elsewhere. After searching many stores and online sites, I decided on the American Standard Retrospect. efaucet had the best price I was able to find anywhere. [...] The toilet was easy to install and works wonderfully but most important the toilet not only matched my sink but also the slipper tub from a different manufacturer. I was so pleased with my efaucet experience that I have since purchased the faucet for my sink and I am currently selecting lighting fixtures to complete the room.

We purchased this toilet and matching pedestal sink. The sink was ok but the tank was not glazed completely through. It had cracks inside and the top was unfinished. It didn't flush because the tank chain was too short so we replaced that before installation. I notified the company and they did absolutely nothing to support this product. Buyer beware.

My Retrospect elongated toilet is leaking between the tank and toilet bowl at the one of the bolts. What product should I use to seal this location? Also what gasket should be used between the tank and toilet bowl. I'm using a generic american standard gasket which doesn't seem to fit properly. Thanks for your help.

We installed this toilet about two weeks ago. When the tank is refilling I get a noise like a howling sound from the water fill valve in the toilet.

Also, I am not fond of having to hold the handle up while it flushes, is this supposed to work like that? Most toilets you push the handle down and it flushes, not requiring you to hold it.

Please me know what to do to correct these issues.

If I were to purchase a different toilet in Linen, is the color a perfect match to the Retrospect basin in Linen? I've found that with some companies, the same color can be off by a few shades. I was very disappointed to find out that the Retrospect toilet isn't offered in any other color then white, even though the basin is offered in Linen. Why aren't all pieces to a collection offered in the same colors, especially since you do offer other toilets in Linen?

A wonderful solution to your desires would be the Town Square Concealed Trapway Right Height Elongated 2piece toilet, model 2817.128.
It is traditional styled, WaterSense certified (1.28 gallons per flush), and comes with a slow close seat which can be removed with the push of a button for easy cleaning.
The list price of the toilet is higher than for the Retrospect, but with Retrospect you have to buy a seat and with Town Square a traditional style-matched slow close seat is included. Flushing performance is great also. It is the maximum rated 1000 grams on the MaP test.

                  hi,
we installed a restrospect toilet two months ago and it has backed up 5 times and flooded or bathroom. Our plumber is blaming it on the toilet, and the fact that it is a lower water capacity toilet. Have you experienced this type of problem with people switching from a regular toilet to a lower flow one?

This type of a problem rarely reported. The toilets have a 2" trapway that will readily remove waste under normal use. It is recommended the bowl be removed from the closet flange to inspect the wax ring as it may have slipped during installation and partially obstructing the drain. If it is confirmed the wax ring has not slipped, please contact us at 1 (800) 387-0369 or (905) 306-1093 in the Toronto area for further assistance.
