Comments about American Standard Standard Collection Right Height EL Toilet:

This bathroom does not get a lot of use so it meets the need. The style is just what we wanted and looks great with our clawfoot tub.

Comments about American Standard Standard Collection Right Height EL Toilet:

I was so relieved to finally get on the website and see that the problems we've had all along with this toilet were not unique to us and also did not point to a larger problem (with our plumbing). If you have this toilet and are struggling with it as we did, stop wasting your time and contact American Standard!

    Service and delivery comments:

I contacted American Standard customer service and spoke with Alyssa who advocated for me to her supervisor and arranged for a new (better) toilet to be delivered directly to our home. I was only asked to email a photo of the failed product in its place in the bathroom. We received the new toilet within 8 days. Thank you, Alyssa and American Standard for great service!

I didn't do a lot of research before I purchased this toilet. I liked the appeaerance and it matched the sink that I purchased. It is installed in our master bath. The flushing is inferior to the Champion and Cadet. It is comfortable though.

I want to make sure that I'm getting the correct replacement part for the toilet. Do I match the number that is inside the tank and will that definitely reference the right part?

              A:

Yes, We would need the four digit number inside the tank on the back wall. It would start with a 2 or a 4. This would tell you the model number.

            Hi
Just finished installing a new Standard Collection Toilet two days ago.
I have used the plunger twice already. There seem to be less water in the toilet compared to my old toilet.
Is there any way of adjusting the water flow into the toilet ?

            Thank you

            1 answer

            • CUSTOMER CARE

              A:

If the gravity flush was fine and just recently began flowing slowly, then something is clogging either the venting or the exit path for the water. The newer 1.6 gallons per flush toilets require more ventilation to operate, whereas, their 3.5 GPF counterpart used the volume of water to flush the waste out.

In order to improve the flush, so that the waste will flow out correctly, here are a few suggestions to try:

              1. Be sure the refill hose from the water control device is inside the long refill tube on the flush valve.
              2. Check the rim holes, by using a small nail or needle inside each hole to remove build-up or debris.
              3. Snake the lines leading to that toilet.
              4. Check that the venting on the roof for that toilet is open and free of debris.
              5. If you have venting behind or below the toilet remove any debris.

If all of this does not work, there could be a plumbing problem deeper in the lines that is not around the toilet area. You may need to contact a plumber to resolve this situation. If this is a new toilet, then you may call Technical Customer Service at 1-800-442-1902, and then press option 1 for Consumer, then option 1 for Technical Support. I think maybe I have more of a, frustration, as well as a QUESTION.I purchased this American Standard, bathroom suite, in 2005', I really like the look, very elegant. Unfortunately the function is not elegant, not even adequate!!
My issue is the same as Allen from Kiel,WI.-11/23/2010, who's question is posted above.
My venting system is fine and working properly, as it has been checked and is clear. I have gone thru the trouble of installing three other toilets in the same location, all three have functioned properly, flushed fully every time.
Can you PLEASE tell me what is wrong with this 'AMERICAN STANDARD' toilet? as I would like to keep the 'American Standard' bathroom suite, model # 2474. I'm really getting tired of inconsistent flushing, needing to flush two or three times. If I add a bucket of water,1 to 1/12 gallons, with the flush, I get a full flush. All the water leaves the tank. Is the trapway improperly designed? Is mine just defective??
            Very DISAPPOINTED.

We installed two of these toilets in a new home, and neither one flushes consistently, with or without paper in the bowl. One of them has to be flushed three or more times to get an actual flush. The lower jet is active on them as I have observed water flowing out of it when the toilet does eventually flush.
Is the problem with the toilet or a venting issue with the plumbing. I have not yet discussed this issue with the builder or plumber, as I believe it is an issue with the toilet.
            Frustrated and disappointed.

It is very important the venting system in your home be clear as it can cause the described symptoms. You may also want to verify the water level in the tank is correct and the refill tube is properly inserted into the overflow.

          • Q:

            Hello,

We have had our Standard Collection toilet for a few years now and were very satisfied with our selection. However, within the past year there appears to be a loose part within the bowl wall. This piece now blocks the flow of water into the bowl. I can assure you that this is not attributed to any human error on our part. Nothing was dropped into the toilet to cause this problem. The object had to come from the assembly parts within. Any attempt to pull the object through the opening was unsuccessfull. As a result, each flush is impeded by this object, which sits right inside the opening of incoming water. The force of water is diminished and does not push the waste through, leaving the remaining waste in the toilet bowl. We have had two plumbers out and neither could get the object out. Please let me know how to resolve this issue. Thank you.
