Really disappointed to find a cheap plastic handle on my nice new toilet. Plastic seat is really cheap and uncomfortable. This has ruined my experience regardless of how it flushes.

Comments about American Standard Traditional Champion 4 EL Right Height Toilet:

Our previous water-saving toilets plugged without the addition of paper. It was very frustrating and inconvenient, to say the least. My mission was to find a replacement that actually did what a toilet is supposed to do. I researched the options and bought the Champion 4 based on the Best Flush rating. We are very pleased with the performance, and will replace the other two toilets in our home with the Champion 4. Our plumber recommended another well-known brand, but when he installed the Champion 4, he told me that 3 of the 4 well-known brand toilets he installed in a home were plugged and the owners were unhappy. I'm glad I did my own research and didn't buy what he recommended. Life is easier now that we are plunger-free!

The Champion toilet has a leaking problem. Mine is a 2005 model. Look on line at all the unsatisfied consumers. I have even replaced the flush assembly, which worked fine for a few months, then the leaking began again. I am afraid I will have to replace the toilet due to faulty design. Before you buy, definitely ask AS if the problem has been solved, or look elsewhere.

My tank is leaking water into the bowl. It appears to be nothing more than a defective gasket. The problem is that I can't find any examples that look like my Flush Valve. The toilet is about 5 years old and the code is "2004 Champion 70." I hate to have to replace the whole valve but if I did, would the Champion Flush Valve - 4" (part #3280.040-0070A) work on my toilet? Dave

I recently installed a Champion 4, elongated, 2piece and it's great. I added a no slam toilet seat. I want to install 2 more, but the height is too high for my daughter. Is the Champion 4 available in shorter heights. I will be purchasing at Lowes and can wait, if they can order. I hope it is..a great toilet.

The Champion 4 is available in Round Front Bowls, Elongated Bowls and Relaxed Height ADA bowls. The round front and elongated bowls are both approx 15.25" tall. Those bowl numbers are 3110.016 and 3121.016.

Hi i have a model 2002 RH elongated 2 piece toilet, purchased in 2003 ?.Over the past few weeks it has been flushing poorly. The valve opens fine,( it does have the occasional skipped flush, which seems common to these toilets), but the water is slow to leave the bowl, it never really empties completely. It sounds like a plugged toilet, but I have plunged and flushed it with the compressed air plunger, and if you add external water to the flush i.e: dump a galon of water directly in the bowl, it flushes with all the gusto it originally had! Is there a chemical flush that is safe to use, that might help open the drain? Is it safe to use a snake on the bowl, or would that damage it? Water level is fine and supply to the tank is fine.

                    A:

If the gravity flush was fine and just recently began flowing slowly, then something is clogging either the venting or the exit path for the water. The newer 1.6 gallons per flush toilets require more ventilation to operate, whereas, their 3.5 GPF counterpart used the volume of water to flush the waste out.

In order to improve the flush, so that the waste will flow out correctly, here are a few suggestions to try:

                    1. Be sure the refill hose from the water control device is inside the long refill tube on the flush valve.
                    2. Check the rim holes, by using a small nail or needle inside each hole to remove build-up or debris.
                    3. Snake the lines leading to that toilet.
                    4. Check that the venting on the roof for that toilet is open and free of debris.
                    5. If you have venting behind or below the toilet remove any debris.

I just replaced my toilet with the Champion 4 because I was sick of unplugging the toilet all the time; however, now the toilet tank is sweating. I never had that problem in the past and the previous tank did not have an insullation kit.

                    A:

You will need to purchase an insulated tank you will not be able to use a generic kit, as it will interfere with the flushing capability. If you have model 2002,2018 or 2023 you can purchase tank model number 4266.504.

Have a Champion 4 toilet whose toilet seat/lid won't stay up. There isn't any adjustment room to move the seat forward so it will lean back on the tank. The tank itself seems to be leaning foward. Any way to fix it?

                    A:

The tank leaning forward would indicate the tank has not been secured properly to the bowl. To properly install the tank to the bowl, the tank must make contact with the bowl in the front and back. This will allow for proper seat layback.

I've been looking for the Champion 4 model that was tested (and top-rated) by Consumer Reports in 2009, the 2002.214. But I see there are several other Champion 4 models.

Is there any mechanical (read, 'flushing') difference among different Champion 4s or are the differences between models all cosmetic, such as to color, round vs. oval bowl, side of handle, and so on?
All I care about is that it flushes as well as the 2002.214. I have 4 kids.

                    Hi
The Champion4 toilets were designed exactly for you, so that you don't need to plunge any more. All Champion4 toilets feature the Champion flushing system, which have the same great performance as the model that was tested by Consumer Reports. The differences between the models are all, as you say, cosmetic. They all flush with the same powerful, no-clog flush.

Every 10-15 minutes the flush valve opens and water runs for about 10-15 seconds. The toilet is only about 1 year old and the flap appears to be in good condition. What could cause the leaking.

                  • CUSTOMER CARE

                    A:

An Aquaguard liner is an insulation that is adhered to the inside of tank to help prevent tank "sweating" or water condensation on the outside of tank. In cold climates where the incoming water supply is very cold and the tank is in the relatively warm room temperature of the bathroom, water condensation can build on the outside of the tank, even so much that the water accumulation drips onto the floor. The Aquaguard liner is a popular solution for this problem.
